After a hiatus of over 10 years, Mallow & St Catherine’s Division 4 hurling league teams played for the Fr Declan Hennessy cup last Friday in Ballynoe.
An exciting contest took place with the Saints doing well in the 1st half and were unlucky to be level 10 points each with Mallow at the short whistle.
A Mallow goal proved decisive in the 2nd half with the visitors holding on for a 1-19 to 1-15 win, the Saints goal coming from Matt Mulcahy.
After the game Saints centre back Eoghan O Riordain was awarded the Man of The Match award and chairperson Ed Galvin presented the cup to Mallow captain Paul Hayes. Ed spoke fondly of Conna native “Fr Joe” as he was known, a man steeped in GAA who was vice chairman of Mallow GAA for many years.
